Shocking: More Amia photos

Today was a happy day!  Suzanne came over to make cookies with me, and Amia decided to tag along.  She even decided to stick around when her momma went to the grocery store.

Also, Brent "met" Kanye West this morning.  He even spoke with him on the phone.

escaping the heat wave through movies

I highly recommend the documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom" which is currently playing in select art theaters.  Especially if that theater has air conditioning and you enjoyed the documentary Spellbound. 

The children in the film were of course hilarious, honest, and inspiring.  I let myself laugh outloud even when no one else in the theater was laughing.  And that felt good.

I also saw the movie Bewitched.  Nicole Kidman was just so darn cute and a bit timid.  Her character reminded me of her soft-spoken self during an interview with Letterman.  It was  a sweet role for her.  And Will Ferrell was...well, Will Ferrell. I laughed quite a bit.

Hope everyone else out there is surviving this heat wave with whatever means possible!

Everyone needs some sunshine

Earlier this afternoon I had a lovely walk in the woods with two very delightful  individuals: Georgia and Maya Baker- big sisters to the newly arrived baby Teresa.  I woke up this morning on what was definitely the wrong side of the bed (both literally and figuratively) and my mood lifted immensely the moment I walked into the Baker's warm, cozy home (Georgia's smile and Maya's "hello Wiza!" helped as well).  After a short raid of the mitten/scarf/hat drawer, we were off.  By the end of the trip, all of our hats, scarfs, mittens and coats were off as well - sunny winter days occasionally translate into early spring weather but anyway!  Georgia led the way as Maya and I "struggled" to keep up (a.k.a. stopping every now and then to throw sticks into the swamp).  Eventually we found the "stairs that lead to no where" and decided to park ourselves on a dock and spent a good 40 minutes playing "fish for leaves" or "make fish soup" or the always favorite "throw sticks and pebbles into the swamp".  I think why I love being around kids so much is that it is totally okay to play pretend...all..the..time.  My personal favorite was "making fish soup" in which Georgia and I stirred in a house, a vacuum cleaner, blood, chocolate milk, and sugar while Maya took care of dumping in the leaves.  It was hard to have to leave our little soup concoction.  I felt a bit better when Georgia said, "Oh Liza, it would be fun if you slept over sometime!".  If I recall correctly from my childhood days, sleepover requests were always the best-est of compliments.   I really needed that walk and playtime.  It helps me deal better with having to be an adult when I can at least use my unbridled imagination every now and again.
